Reflections on a rainy day

No new work to post today.  I actually spent my weekend studio time at the NMAL general meeting in Bloomsburg instead.  It was pretty interesting.  Listening to the other artists talking about showing work, and selling work, and getting commissioned to do work made me feel a bit…jealous?...sad?  I mean, wow, some of these guys and gals are living the dream – really working as artists here in PA and not just doing it on the side when they can scare hours away from their ‘real’ jobs and other hobbies. I left feeling a little disheartened about my place among them.  But as I drove home, I thought about the spontaneous hug I got from the teen who must have felt the hour she spent with me last Friday was valuable, and the fact that this Friday I’ll be fencing in Detroit with my personal armorer and ultra-supportive husband cheering me on.  Maybe being an artist (and a fencer, and a runner) on the side isn’t such a bad reality after all.  I guess I’m pretty darn lucky to get to be pretty darn good at a couple things instead of really amazing at just one…….
